Iolite

Iolite, also known as Cordierite is a magnesium, iron, aluminium cyclosilicate. Formed deep within igneous rocks, Iolite crystals boast a fascinating pleochroic property, appearing as different colours depending on the angle from which you are looking at it. This characteristic earned it the nickname "water sapphire", as it can sometimes display a watery blue or violet hue.

Mined primarily in India, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka, Iolite's value comes from its unique colour play and vitreous shine.

Historically, Iolite's practical applications were just as intriguing as its geology. Viking sailors used thin slices of Iolite, acting as a natural polariser, to determine the sun's position even on cloudy days, to aid navigation. This practical use cemented its reputation as the "Viking's compass".
Beyond its practical uses, Iolite has garnered a rich history in the world of spiritual beliefs. Often referred to as the "Vision Stone" (not the one Thanos prised out of Vison's forehead), or the "Shaman's Stone", it's believed to enhance intuition and access to deeper levels of consciousness. Some cultures associated it with past-life recall and communication with the spirit world.
Iolite is said to stimulate the third eye chakra, promoting clarity of thought, inner vision, and self-acceptance. It's believed to help break negative thought patterns and foster a sense of peace and truthfulness.
